Glasgow City Council leads the way with IoT
Glasgow is set to become the first Scottish City to offer pervasive IoT connectivity to businesses across the city. Glasgow City Council is working in partnership with North, who are building Scotland’s National IoT network – IoT Scotland.
The Glasgow rollout will provide the city with over 99% coverage via 22 gateways, which are being installed across the city – making it the most LoRa covered city in the UK, with potential to become the smartest.
IoT Scotland is a wireless sensor network for applications and services to collect data from devices and send that data without the need for cellular or Wi-Fi, supporting businesses to develop new and innovative applications, changing the way they work. The £6m network, which will work via 500 LoRa (Long Range) wireless gateways situated throughout Scotland, is part-funded by £2.7m from the Scottish Government, with further support from Scottish Enterprise, Highland and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and private sector investment from North.
